In this course, students will learn basic hand sewing techniques and become familiar with a sewing machine. They will familiarize themselves with different fabrics to incorporate into multiple sewing projects.

Fashion Sketches
- Portfolio Prep

In this course, students will learn industry-standard fashion illustration techniques as well as develop their own personal styles. Portfolios will consist of a moldboard, trend board, and fashion renderings of a mini collection.

  • Student needs to prepare their own fabrics & materials.

  • We continue to accept students throughout the semester, and the tuition will be adjusted accordingly to the time of registration.

Sewing Basic
- Adult Continuing Education

In this course, you will learn basic hand-sewing techniques and become familiar with sewing machines. You will become familiar with different fabrics to incorporate into multiple sewing projects. Working knowledge of  and awareness of the finished garment and how to construct it. You will learn the techniques needed to create basic details in a garment and enjoy a new source of design inspiration.

  • Hand sewing (running, back, and whip stitches)

  • Button and applique sewing 

  • Understanding the workings of an at-home sewing and serger machine 

  • Understand sewing patterns 

  • Practice sewing techniques through multiple projects throughout the term

Sewing Basic
- Adult Continuing Education

In this course, you will learn basic hand sewing techniques and become familiar with sewing machines. You will become familiar with different fabrics to incorporate into multiple sewing projects. Working knowledge of draping and pattern making; the awareness of the finished garment and how to construct it. You will learn the techniques needed to create basic details in a garment and enjoy a new source of design inspiration.

  • Understand commercial sewing patterns 

  • Practice sewing techniques through multiple projects throughout the term

Sewing Intermediate 
- Adult Continuing Education

In this course, You will continue to strengthen sewing techniques through becoming familiar with Commercial patterns and an at-home serger machine. You will learn about different fabrics to incorporate into a more indepth commercial sewing project. Learn sewing and fabric terminology of patterns and materials:  the awareness of the finished garment and how to construct it.

  • Understand commercial sewing patterns 

  • Read pattern instructions with full comprehension

  • Understanding the workings of an at-home sewing and serger machine  

  • Incorporate serging of all pattern pieces 

  • Experiment with different fabrics

Cutting Fabric
Pattern Making 1
- Adult Continuing Education

This course is for students ready to expand their knowledge from commercial patterns to drafting pattern pieces from basic blocks. Students will create pattern blocks to fit their personal person. Once blocks are formed, students will manipulate the patterns to make their own unique garments. The instructor will guide lectures and demonstrate how to build students’ patternmaking knowledge. This course will briefly cover illustration to portray design ideas. 

  • Learn how to build basic blocks/slopers

  • Manipulate blocks

  • Draft patterns

  • Use critical thinking on how to sew garments together

Prerequisite - Sewing Basic or should be able to confidently thread a machine, whined a bobbin, and sew a 4 corner spiral.

Pattern Making 2
- Adult Continuing Education

A continuation of Pattern Making I, this course will continue to strengthen sewing techniques through an array of projects.

  • Learn how to build basic blocks/slopers

  • Manipulate blocks

  • Draft patterns

  • Use critical thinking on how to sew garments together.

Patron
Tailoring / Alteration
- Adult Continuing Education

Students will explore classic tailoring techniques. Students are encouraged to bring in their personal garments in need of alterations to complete with help of the instructor. Each class has a different lecture for different tailoring styles needed for our modern clothing. By the end of the course students will be able to apply appropriate hand or machine skills to any alteration obstacle.  

  • Learn different hand stitches used to hems and repairs

  • Use the different stitches and presser feet for alteration advantages

  • Manipulate clothing for a better fit using darts, elastic, etc. 

  • Upcycling clothing

Prerequisite: Sewing Basic or should be able to confidently thread a machine, whined a bobbin, and sew a 4 corner spiral.

Upcycling Fashion
- Adult Continuing Education

Upcycling in clothing is the method of taking old, worn-out, or damaged materials and transforming them into brand-new pieces. In this course, students will learn how to turn old or discarded clothes and materials into new and valuable apparel and accessories. By cutting and sewing, the students will give new life to old items and extend the time they are being used. Upcycling clothes is a great way to minimize the impact of fashion on the environment. 

  • Tuition fees cover all fabric materials and machines used throughout the course. 

  • We continue to accept students until three weeks from the class start date, and the tuition will be adjusted to the registration time.
